GROUP 5 NEWS & INFORMATION

Group Five will support Florida Wing's and subordinate units' ability to perform Homeland Security and humanitarian missions for our state and local communities; develop our community's youth; and educate our citizens on the importance of air and space power.

Our Mission: "Committed to excellence in the execution of our missions of Emergency Service, Cadet Programs, and Aerospace Education in service to our members, our communities, and our nation."

PUBLIC AFFAIRS PLAN - Fiscal Year 2010

The Group Five Office of Public Affairs has established a plan to support the Civil Air Patrol Public Affairs Mission “to inform internal and external audiences of Civil Air Patrol’s national importance, safeguard the image and assets of the corporation, and strengthen relations with key audiences which will enable the organization to grow.”

The Group Five Public Affairs objectives are to:
• Support the Wing, Region, and National Headquarters    PA/Marketing plans, strategies and goals;
• Support and mentor squadron PAOs and MIOs, especially    those that are new to their assignments;
• Increase public awareness of CAP and its local, state, and    national missions;
• Promote cooperation among the Civil Air Patrol and other    aviation organizations, the military, businesses, industry    groups, and civic organizations within the local area.

Group Five has established the following immediate goals and strategies for FY'10 to meet the objectives listed above.

Goal#1: Maintain a Group web site for disseminating news information about the Group, and links to other web-based resources to assist in achievement of squadron level goals. Encourage each unit to develop , at minimum, a corporate identity page published on the internet. Provide assistance if requested.

Goal #2: Encourage Group Staff to develop directorate specific message to provide guidance for membership. Publish compiled message in newsletter/bulletin at least quarterly to communicate the voice of command, announce scheduled events, promote esprit de corps, and provide an additional communication channel for Group staff to communicate with Group membership.

Goal #3: Ensure that each unit within the Group has a qualified PAO, where possible. Establish a Correspondent Corps that includes both senior and cadet members to assist creation of materials appropriate for inclusion in delivering CAP message.

Goal #4: Develop qualified Public Information Officers to meet requirements established by Emergency Services Directorate.

Goal #5: Provide proper mentoring and training for PAO, when requested, at unit level to enhance effectiveness. Ensure PAOs progress along Professional Development pathway.

Goal #6: Encourage units to identify and benchmark strategic partnerships and link between subordinate units and local government, agencies, and aviation interests. Encourage the development of a program to ensure each is contacted at least quarterly and updated on CAP activities and offered the support of the CAP.

Goal #7: Encourage units to identify and establish benchmark of the involvement of subordinate units with their local government agencies including the Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Management, County Commissions, City Councils and School Boards.

Goal #8: Encourage units to identify and establish benchmark of existing ties with local media agencies, including newspaper, radio, and television stations.

To ensure the effectiveness of the Group 5 Public Affairs Plan, review of the plan will be accomplished annually and may be updated at anytime when required.
